Widowed Govindi lives a poor lifestyle in Haripur along with two sons, Gungaram and Jumna. While Jumna is studious, Gungaram is the opposite, but has a good heart and decides to use his earnings to ensure his brother gets a decent education. After her employer, Hariram, accuses Govindi of theft, their house is searched, evidence is found, she is arrested, the entire village bails her out, but the shock kills her. After her passing, Gungaram works for Hariram while Jumna goes to the city to study. During the course of his studies, he is forced to sell off all his belongings when Gungaram fails to provide him with any funds. He does continue to study, and after completing them becomes a police officer. He is then given his first assignment, which is none other than in Haripur itself, and it is here that he will be forced to confront Gungaram, who is now an ex-convict, jailed for theft, and now is the leader of a dreaded band of killer bandits. Watch what impact Jumna's presence will have on Haripur and especially on Gungaram.

It's time to roll out the red carpet, strum the guitars, blow the trumpets, beat the drums, uncork the bottles of red wine and dance to the tune of 'Aal izz well,' because all is indeed well. Before the start, I must admit, I had a slight reservation whether Raju Hirani, the man who successfully wooed the masses with Munnabhai series, be able to serve today's young, ruthless and nitpicky generation? Tackling a young and peppy theme in the presence of ever-critical, scrutinizing eyes that cry for realism, but only under the fundamental stipulation of it being coated with entertainment, is not an easy task. Nor is it an easy task for a director to make a strong, personal, philosophical statement in today's cynical times. Hirani expresses his beliefs clearly and effectively without committing the cardinal sin of getting preachy. He also deserves kudos for convincing Aamir to play a college student. No one else could have done justice to Rancho's character other than the master.

Na Ghar Ke Na Ghat Ke narrates the tale of village simpleton Devaki Nandan Tripathi (Rahul) who comes to big bad Mumbai to try his luck. A newly married Devaki and his wife (Narayani) end up facing lot of troubles in the city. Nandkishore Sharma alias Nandu is born in the Sharma family. His mother tragically passes away, leaving him in the care of his father who decides to re-marry a woman named Kamla. Kamla is not very kind to Nandu, who then seeks love and solace with a neighbor named Pushpa, who looks after him, feeds him, and even sings lullabies to get him to sleep. This does not auger well with Kamla, who severely beats up Nandu whenever she finds out that he has gone to meet Pushpa. He asks around for a woman named Pushpa, hoping that a lot of people would remember her for her kindness and love. He is shocked to find out that Pushpa not longer lives there - and no one remembers her for her love and compassion only as a - prostitute.
